Sarena Straus is a multi-award-winning science fiction novelist. Her REINCEPTION trilogy won more than ten awards including an IBPA Ben Franklin Award for “Best Audiobook-Fiction” as well as CIBA Cygnus and Pencraft First Place Awards for Science Fiction. Book Three in the trilogy will be out October of 2026. Her sci-horror short story, THE PATCHWORK MAN, is shortlisted for a CIBA SEA Award.

In 2010, Sarena’s true-crime memoir, BRONX DA: TRUE STORIES FROM THE SEX CRIMES AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE UNIT, sold as a TV Pilot to CBS/Paramount. Sarena has been an adjunct professor in New York and Zambia and had a multi-year career as a talking head, appearing on over 100 TV and radio shows.

After receiving a BA in art history and political science from Barnard, Sarena graduated from Fordham University School of Law. She then worked for five years at the Bronx District Attorney’s Office (BXDA), where she prosecuted sex crimes and child abuse cases. After leaving BXDA, she published a true-crime memoir, Bronx DA: True Stories from the Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence Unit (Barricade, 2006). In 2010, her book sold as a TV Pilot to CBS/Paramount.

Sarena went on to publish numerous legal articles and works of poetry, and was an editor for a legal magazine. For several years, she was also a talking head, commenting on current criminal cases in the media on TV and radio. She has been a guest author on over a hundred speaker panels and podcasts for science fiction, writing and reader audiences around the world. 

Sarena lives in the Hudson Valley, NY with her husband, two children, two naughty Labrador retrievers, and a lovely barn cat. When not writing or lawyering, Sarena is an avid SCUBA diver and loves to travel off the beaten path.
